Borrowing in dollars & paying off debt in another currency

I am a South African who used to study in the United States. When I was studying, I borrowed $6000 US from another South African. We are both back in South Africa now, and it is more convenient for both of us if I pay him back I South African rands. Is this allowed?

Answered by Sheikh `Abd al-Hakîm Balmahdî, professor at al-Imâm Islamic University, Riyadh   This question was confronted at the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and His Companions, since they had two currency standards at the time: the golddinar and the silver ... Continue Reading

Will a person be brought to account for whatever crosses his mind of good or evil?

Sometimes a person suffers from thinking of some sin, and other thoughts that come from the whispers of the Shaytaan and the nafs. Will he be requited for whatever crosses his mind, and will it be written in his record, whether it is good or bad?

Praise be to Allah. Al-Bukhaari (6491) and Muslim (131) narrated from Ibn ‘Abbaas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said, relating from his Lord, may He be glorified and exalted: “Allah decreed good deeds and bad deeds, ... Continue Reading

Ruling on making models of the Ka‘bah to explain the rituals of Hajj

Is it haraam to make models of kaba and explain the children the rituals of hajj?

Praise be to Allah. It should be noted that the basic principle concerning acts of worship is that there should be taqwa in the heart and veneration of the symbols and sacred things of Allah, may He be exalted; anything that undermines that veneration of His symbols or turns them into something ... When making up missed fasts, it is essential to form the intention the night before, as is required in the case of the original fast

I wasnt aware that ramadan fasts missed due to menstruation had to be made up before nafl ones and I started keeping some nafl ones so is it possible for me to change the intention of the previous nafl ones I have kept or to change the intention of fast during the day? Because the one I kept today for example I started off with the intention of keeping a nafl fast but can I now change this to the intention of making up the ones I missed in ramadan?

Praise be to Allah. Firstly:  It is not valid to change the intention of observing the voluntary fast that one has completed in order to make it a fast to make up for a day of Ramadan which one did not fast, because when making up missed fasts, it is essential to form the intention ... Tucking up the hair at the time of prayer

In fatwa no. 141473 you mentioned in detail that prayer is not valid with the hair tied back. Does this apply to women too? Is it permissible for a woman to pray with her hair tucked up or tied back? I hope that you can give the evidence in detail because some scholars here in Pakistan say that that is not permissible.
Praise be to Allaah. Firstly: In the answers to questions no. 96280 and 163428 we stated that it is makrooh for a man to pray with his hair tucked up, which means that he gathers his hair together and ties it back, thus preventing it from prostrating with him. The prohibition in this case ... Continue Reading

Is treating people equally unfairly justice?

There is a saying that treating people equally unfairly is justice; some people attribute this to the Messenger (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and some regard it as if it is a basic principle that cannot be changed. What is the Islamic ruling or how sound is this saying?.

Praise be to Allaah. The saying that some people say, “treating people equally unfairly is justice” is false and is as far removed from the laws and religion of Allah as the East is from the West. Allah forbid that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be ... Continue Reading

Is it haraam for a woman who is junub to cook or touch things?

My question is that how soon after havin sex should a bath be taken. We have heard that everythiong you do before having bath like walk or cook is haram. Is it ok to take bath before your next praye. God bless you for your services.
Praise be to Allaah. There is no set time limit within which a woman who is junub has to do ghusl. It has to do with the performance of prayers and other acts of worship where tahaarah (purity) is required. There is no harm in delaying ghusl until the time for the next prayer comes, so long as the ... Continue Reading

How should I pray when I am on board an airplane and it's direction keeps changing?

When traveling via airplane which direction should one pray? Assuming that due to conditions on the plane the proper direction cannot be ascertained.

Praise be to Allah. You have to face the direction of the Qiblah when you are praying an obligatory prayer, because Allah says:{فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ ۚ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ}'Translation' {so turn your face in the direction of ... Islamic Education in the West

How do we as Muslims living in the west maintain an Islamic Education for our children. Primary and secondary education up to the age of 15/16 may be provided in Muslim schools (which are also very expensive), but as for Higher Education there is no such Islamic Institute.

Even on the secondary school level on the agenda of Curriculum, we do not have books that deal with the branches of knowledge that are available in secular institutes, such as; Political science, Sociology, Psychology, Pedagogy. Please advise on how we should go about bringing about an Islamic Education system for our Youth in the west (bearing in mind that it is near impossible for us to migrate to Arab/Muslim countries because of the restrictions on immigration etc.).

Praise be to Allah. In order to preserve the structure of the Muslim family in the non-Muslim countries, we need to meet a number of conditions and requirements, both within the home and outside it:Within the home:It is essential for parents to uphold the habit of praying regularly in the mosque ...
