The virtue of the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them)

I hope that you can explain the virtue of the Sahaabah and what distinguishes them from others?

Praise be to Allaah. Belief in the good character and virtue of the Sahaabah is the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah. That is because Allaah has praised them in His Book and they were also praised by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) as is narrated in ... Continue Reading

There is nothing wrong with gathering to recite the Holy Qur'an

My friends and I get together one night a week to recite a few verses of the Book of Allah, so as to learn how to recite the Qur'an, then after that we talk about various things. But we heard that it is not permissible to gather to recite Qur'an and that is only permissible for the purpose of memorization. Is this true?

Praise be to Allah. There is nothing wrong with gathering to recite and study the Qur'an and to memorize it and to learn about Islam, because the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: «No people gather in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and ... How should I pray when I am on board an airplane and it's direction keeps changing?

When traveling via airplane which direction should one pray? Assuming that due to conditions on the plane the proper direction cannot be ascertained.

Praise be to Allah. You have to face the direction of the Qiblah when you are praying an obligatory prayer, because Allah says:{فَوَلِّ وَجْهَكَ شَطْرَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ ۚ وَحَيْثُ مَا كُنتُمْ فَوَلُّوا۟ وُجُوهَكُمْ شَطْرَهُ}'Translation' {so turn your face in the direction of ... Is it correct to think that fatwas may vary according to time and place?

I read the words: "The scholars are unanimously agreed that fatwas may change according to time, place, local custom and situation so it is essential to take new developments into account". But I am not convinced of this. Is this view correct? I hope that you can answer with evidence from shareeطah and the Sunnah. May Allah reward you with good.

Praise be to Allah.  This principle is expressed by some scholars in the words: "Changing rulings according to changing times is not to be denounced", as it says in Majallat al-Ahkaam al-'Adliyyah al-Maaddah [39]; Sharh al-Qawaa'id al-Fiqhiyyah by al-Zarqa ... Continue Reading

Muslim working in law enforcement in a non-Islamic country

I have a question regarding the permissibility of becoming a law enforcement officer in this country that does no follow sharee 'ah. Is it haraam to be enforcing laws that have not been developed by our Creator Allaah and His holy Prophets (upon whom be peace)? Even if it means enforcing laws on non-Muslims?

Partciluarly, is it permissible to enforce a law like punishing someone for speeding on the highway? What about allowing someone to drink alcohol if he is over 21 but not if he is under 21? Even though this is not Islamic, should a Muslim allow such behaviour among non-Muslims? Of course, Muslims will be accountable for these haraam actions in the Hereafter, but is it okay to let non-Muslims do this?

Praise be to Allah. If a Muslim is able, through such work, to fight evil and oppression, or to prevent or reduce it by using the existing laws which may contain something of justice and decency, then it is permissible if his intention is to seek the pleasure of Allah. He may do this work even if it ... Continue Reading

The virtues of Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer

I would like to know some of the ahaadith which speak of the virtues of Jumu'ah prayer.

Praise be to Allah.  Many ahaadith have been narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) which explain the virtues of Jumu'ah prayer. For example: 1. Muslim [233] narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ... Continue Reading

What is zuhd (asceticism)?

What is zuhd (asceticism)? Does it mean wearing scruffy clothing, fasting constantly, and keeping away from society, or something else?

Zuhd does not mean wearing scruffy clothing, withdrawing from people and keeping away from society, or fasting constantly. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is the leader of all zaahids (ascetics) but he would wear new clothes; adorn himself to meet delegations, for Jumu'ah ... Continue Reading

Appointing someone to supervise each halaqah in order to correct mistakes

On some trips there is a Qur'aan reading program, and they divide the people into separate circles (halaqahs) and someone who reads Qur'aan well to correct any mistakes. Is there anything wrong with this?

Praise be to Allah. There is nothing wrong with that. Reading Qur'aan is something that should be done regularly, and if there are readers who get together to read the Qur'aan but they have some weaknesses or make mistakes, and they appoint someone to correct their mistakes who can commit ... Repentance from Sins Involving the Rights of Others

If the sin involves the rights of another person then what form should repentance take?

Praise be to AllahThe basis for the answer is the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) who said: " «He upon whom his brother has a right, be it of the nature of money or honor, let him compensate for it before he is made to compensate for it on a day when ... What to do With Forbidden Items after Repentance

I have repented. But in my possession are some forbidden things such as musical instruments, cassettes, films, etc. Is it permissible for me to sell them, particularly since they are worth a large amount?

Praise be to AllahSale of such banned articles is not permissible in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: «When Allah forbids a thing, then He forbids its price (as well)» i.e., its sale/purchase/trading (Abu Dawood, and it is authenti). Also, you know ...
