Gaining benefits by deceptive means

I live and work in UK. In order to get extra welfare benefits to help pay my rent and local council taxes (on top of national taxes) I am showing less income (earnings). By doing so I get extra money which helps pay various bills and I save some as well. Is this permissible? Is this income Haram? Is the whole amount of benefit I get Haram or parts?

Bukhari reported that Anas (Radiya Allahu Anhu) said: 'A Jewish girl brought a poisoned lamb to the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) and he ate from it'. However, cheating and making use of deceptive methods to gain this benefit, by providing the department of this ... Continue Reading

Asking the Muslim about the state of his heart and his faith

Is it permissible to ask the Muslims -when meeting with them- about the state of their faith or their hearts? One of them said to me that this is a matter of the unseen and that it is not appropriate to ask about it.

Praise be to Allah. What is prescribed for the Muslim is to encourage those he meets to adhere to the truth in word and deed, and to be patient in doing that and calling people to it, as Allah, may He be exalted, says:{وَالْعَصْرِ . إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ . إِلَّا ... Continue Reading

Repeatedly Committing a Sin and Repenting from it

For how long does Allah forgive a person's sin? If he repents and seeks forgiveness from his sin, then goes and commits the same sin again, then he seeks forgiveness again then commits the same sin again, and so on, does Allah forgive him or does that mean that he is not sincere towards Allah, especially if he repeats that sin after a short while, but he does not stop seeking forgiveness?

Islamic Education in the West

How do we as Muslims living in the west maintain an Islamic Education for our children. Primary and secondary education up to the age of 15/16 may be provided in Muslim schools (which are also very expensive), but as for Higher Education there is no such Islamic Institute.

Even on the secondary school level on the agenda of Curriculum, we do not have books that deal with the branches of knowledge that are available in secular institutes, such as; Political science, Sociology, Psychology, Pedagogy. Please advise on how we should go about bringing about an Islamic Education system for our Youth in the west (bearing in mind that it is near impossible for us to migrate to Arab/Muslim countries because of the restrictions on immigration etc.).

Praise be to Allah. In order to preserve the structure of the Muslim family in the non-Muslim countries, we need to meet a number of conditions and requirements, both within the home and outside it:Within the home:It is essential for parents to uphold the habit of praying regularly in the mosque ... Types of hadith according to who it is attributed to

I have a question about some terminology that I would like you to explain to me. In some audio lectures I hear words such as (a marfoo' hadith) or  (a maqtoo' hadith)..

Praise be to Allah. The scholars of Hadith have a number of categories for reports, which vary according to the criteria they are looking at. One such case is the division of Hadith into categories based on who the Hadith is attributed to.They say: Hadith may be divided into categories according to ... Continue Reading

It is not permissible to congratulate the kuffaar on their festivals in any way whatsoever

What is the ruling on eating the food (rice, meat, chicken or cake) that is given to us by a Christian friend that he made for his birthday or for Christmas or the Christian New Year? What is your opinion on congratulating him by saying, "Insha Allaah you will continue to do well this year" so as to avoid saying Kull 'aam wa antum bi khayr (approx. "season's greetings") or "Happy New Year" etc?

Praise be to Allah. It is not permissible for a Muslim to eat things that the Jews and Christians make on their festivals, or what they give him as a gift on their festivals, because that is cooperating with them and joining in with them in this evil.It is not permissible for him to congratulate ... Congregational dhikr

Can we perform dhikr congregationally and in unison? If yes, when, where, how, and at what time? If no, what about the numerous hadîth stating thet the Companions used to remember Allah in groups? [For instance: Riyâd as-Salihîn of Imam al-Nawawî (Arabic & English) under the topic "On Remembrance in Company" (chapter 246, page 661)]

Answered by Sheikh `Abd al-Rahmân al-Barrâk   When it comes to acts of worship, they have to be clearly and precisely established by the Qur’ân and Sunnah. Anything else is an anlawful innovation (bid`ah). The burden of proof, therefore, is upon the one claiming ... Continue Reading

Praise be to Allah. Hadeeths that differentiate between the scholars and the martyrs`

How sound is this hadeeth: “The ink of the scholar is more sacred than the blood of the martyr”?

Praise be to Allah. Firstly:  The hadeeths which state that the scholars are superior to the martyrs, or that the ink of the scholar is superior to the blood of the martyr, were narrated from a number of the Sahaabah, but they have weak and flimsy, or fabricated isnaads, which we ... When making up missed fasts, it is essential to form the intention the night before, as is required in the case of the original fast

I wasnt aware that ramadan fasts missed due to menstruation had to be made up before nafl ones and I started keeping some nafl ones so is it possible for me to change the intention of the previous nafl ones I have kept or to change the intention of fast during the day? Because the one I kept today for example I started off with the intention of keeping a nafl fast but can I now change this to the intention of making up the ones I missed in ramadan?

Praise be to Allah. Firstly:  It is not valid to change the intention of observing the voluntary fast that one has completed in order to make it a fast to make up for a day of Ramadan which one did not fast, because when making up missed fasts, it is essential to form the intention ...
