Sending blessings and peace upon the Prophets, and praying for Allah’s pleasure, mercy and safety for others

What is customary is for us to say “Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him (sall Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)” specifically for our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him); is it permissible to offer this supplication with this wording for other Prophets? Who are the only ones for whom the following phrases are to be used: may Allah be pleased with him (radiya Allahu ‘anhu), may Allah have mercy on him (rahimahu Allah), may Allah keep him safe (sallamahu Allah)? Is it permissible to offer supplication for a great scholar who strove all his life to call people to Allah and His Messenger, such as Shaykh ‘Abd al-‘Azeez ibn Baaz and other, similar contemporary scholars, when they die, by saying “may Allah be pleased with him” or “peace be upon him”?

Praise be to Allah. Firstly:Offering supplication by saying “Blessings and peace of Allah be upon him (sall Allahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)” is not only for our Prophet Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him); rather it may be said for all the Prophets (blessings and ... Continue Reading

Islam Erases the Sins that Came Before it

A brother of ours has recently become Muslim. During his days of Jaahiliyyah (ignorance – i.e., before he became Muslim), he earned a lot of money by dealing in drugs. He brought this money with him and opened a big bookstore and got married using this money. Recently he has been told that it is not permissible for him to give this money in charity, because Allaah is Good and only accepts that which is good, Our question is, what should he do with this money, and how sound is what he has been told?.

Praise be to Allaah. Firstly:Praise be to Allaah Who has guided him to Islam. We ask Allaah to make him steadfast and to guide him to that which is good for him in this world and in the Hereafter. Secondly:By His grace and mercy, Allaah has caused Islam to destroy the sins that came ... Whilst praying the sunnah, the iqaamah is called

If a man was praying the sunnah of the fajr [prayer], or other than it, and whilst doing so the [iqaamah for the obligatory] prayer was called, is he required to [promptly] terminate his prayer in order to join the imaam [and congregation] in [the obligatory] prayer, or should he complete his prayer [first]?

The origin of this issue, lies in his (sal-Allaahu 'alayhi wa sallam)'s statement:«When the iqaamah for the prayer is called, there is no [other] prayer other than the prescribed [obligatory prayer]» (Muslim [1/493]).So that which is apparent from this hadeeth is the ... Continue Reading

They inherited wealth from their father and invested it in some business; how should they pay zakaah?

We are three sons, three daughters and a mother. We inherited 14,500 Jordanian dinars from our father and we invested this money in some business; every month we get 215 Jordanian dinars. Is any zakaah due on this amount, because this money belongs to everyone?.

Praise be to Allaah. Firstly:  The mother’s share of the estate is one-eighth. The rest is to be divided among the sons and daughters, with each male getting the share of two females. If we realise that the nisaab (minimum threshold) for zakaah is the value of 595 grams of ... Continue Reading

The concept of monotheism in Islam

I am doing research on the concept of monotheism in the world's five major religions. Could you please explain to me the concept of monotheism in Islam?

The Fatwa Department Research Committee - chaired by Sheikh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-TurayrîMonotheism is the message that all of the Prophets came with. People then deviated from the truth. Then Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came as the final Messenger and restored true monotheism to ... Continue Reading
