A Reminder of Fasting Tâsû'â' and Âshûrâ'

Since 2012-12-18

Sayyid Ar-Rifâ'i: the fasting of the Day of Âshûrâ' was obligatory, after that it became a confirmed Sunnah.

Sayyid Ar-Rifâ'i: the fasting of the Day of Âshûrâ' was obligatory, after that it became a confirmed Sunnah.

The Islamic Center of Wathakker reminds the Muslims to fast the days of Tâsû'â' and Âshûrâ' that correspond to 23rd and 24th of November, 2012.

Sheikh Sayyid Fu'âd ibn Sayyid Abdurrahman Ar-Rifâ'i Al-Husseini has made a press statement where he said, "I take this opportunity to remind our Muslim brothers and sisters of fasting the days of Tâsû'â' and Âshûrâ'' (the ninth and tenth of the Hijri Month of Al-Muharram). They will be due next Friday and Saturday, and Allah knows best."

He added, "Our motive to remind you of the Day of Âshûrâ'' is to accomplish the duty of reminding the Muslims of the Sunnah of the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him and upon his family. Allah Almighty says, {And remind, for verily, the reminding profits the believers.} [Surat Adh-Dhâriyât: 55] In addition, it is to be keen on attaining the reward because this who guides for good is just like the one who does it. Moreover, this is to wish for the good to our Muslim brothers and sisters, in this worldly life and in the hereafter."

Sayyid Ar-Rifâ'i continued, "Parent, teachers, and others should remind their sons and daughters of this blessed Sunnah, to grow up loving it and its initiator; the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him. The young must learn why the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has ordered us to fast the Day of Âshûrâ', which is the tenth day of the sacred month of Al-Muharram. They should memorize the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, about this day. It is narrated by Al-Bukhâri and Muslim that The Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, came to Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Âshûrâ'. He asked, "What is this?" They replied, "This is a good day. It is the day on which Allah rescued the Children of Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day." The Prophet said, "We have more claim over Moses than you." So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast it. The Prophet added, "If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram," to contradict the fasting of the Jews. [Reported by Muslim]

Sayyid  Ar-Rifâ'i concluded his statement supplicating Allah, Glorified and Exalted, to bestow on us the bliss of reviving the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, and to abide by it. He also mentioned that the flier (The Day of Âshûrâ': a Day of Joy and Happiness, not a Day of Grief and Weeping) can be freely downloaded from the official website of the center www.wathakker.info

It can also be obtained, free of charge and in any quantity, directly from the Islamic Center of Wathakker. It is also possible to communicate via Twitter, Facebook, and the official page of Sheikh Sayyid Fu'âd Ar-Rifâ'i Al-Husseini.
