Eid al-Fitr 1431 Hijri year

Since 2012-11-17

O beloved, the Eid is a season for joy and happiness. The joys of Muslims and their happiness are but with the satisfaction of their Creator. The Eid is not, as a lot of people think, confined to food and drinks, to games and new cloth. It is, in addition to all that, days of praising Allah, of saying, “Allah is Great”, of remembering Allah, and of saying, “There is no god but Allah.”

In the Name of Allâh, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Allahu-akbar (Allah is Great). Allahu-akbar. Allahu-akbar. La-ilâha ila-allah (There is no god but Allah). Allahu-akbar. Allahu-akbar. Wa-Lilâhi-al-hamd (all praises and thanks be to Allah).

In the name of Allah, all the praises and thanks be to Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon the Messenger of Allah and upon all his family, companions and followers.

May Allah accept your acts of obedience.
Happy blessed Eid.

The Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has said, “I have come to Medina and there were for its people two days on which they engage in games in the pre-Islamic period. Allah Almighty has substituted for you something better than them, the day of the breaking of the fast and the day of sacrifice.” [Authenticated by al-Albani]

«قدمت المدينة و لأهل المدينة يومان يلعبون فيهما في الجاهلية، و أن الله تعالى قد أبدلكم بهما خيرا منهما يوم الفطر و يوم النحر» صححه الألباني

O Muslims, I would like to remind you of some of the established Sunnah of the Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, in words and deeds on the happy day of Eid al-fitr.

First: it is ordained to start saying Allah is Great from the first night before the Eid day, it is continued till the Eid prayer. It is from the Sunnah that men say it out loud in the mosques, market places and homes. It is in declaration of glorifying Allah, Glorified and Exalted, and praising Him. It is also to demonstrate joy and happiness. The women are to say Allah is Great in a low voice.
(The ordained is to say Allah is Great, individually, not collectively.)

Second: to observe the Eid prayer and not to miss it.

Third: performing total ablution (before going out to perform the Eid prayer), men are to wear perfume, to put on the best of clothes and the most beautiful of them (without lengthening the cloth or shaving the beard).

Fourth: eating before the Eid prayer, it is preferable to eat an odd number of dates.

Fifth: going out early for the Eid prayer.

Sixth: praying in the Eid prayer place for men, women and children, (the menstruating woman and women in child birth attend the sermon but keep away from praying.)

Seventh: to go the prayer place walking, if possible, and to return from it taking another rout.

Eighth: the two greeting of the mosque rak’ahs are not ordained before the Eid prayer, if it is performed in the prayer place.

Ninth: the Eid prayer consists of two rak’ahs; the first rak’ah is started with seven sayings of Allahu-akbar, other than the opening one (which is said in the beginning of every prayer), the second rak’ah is started with five ones, other than the standing one (which is said after every standing from bowing down during prayers). When the Imam finishes the prayer, he stands and gives the sermon for people.

Tenth: exchanging congratulations.

Eleventh: to be keen in ensuring kinship ties, and to bring joy and happiness to the poor and the orphans.

Important remark:

The Muslim must pay the fast breaking zakat before the Eid prayer, otherwise he will bear a sin. The zakat will be considered a charity from charities.

Finally

Do not forget to fast six days of Shawwâl. Remind your family, offspring, and brothers of them, so that you will gain the great reward, Allah willing. The Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has said, “He who observed the fast of Ramadan and then followed it with six fasting days of Shawwâl, it would be as if he fasted perpetually.” [Reported by Muslim]

«من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه ستا من شوال كان كصيام الدهر» رواه مسلم

Finally O beloved

The Eid is for praising not for committing sins. Observe the commands of your Lord and help your women, your offspring and your brothers to obey Allah, Glorified and Exalted.

May Allah accept your acts of obedience. Best wishes for a happy Eid for you all.

Assalâmu-alaykum wa rahmatu-allah wa barakâtuh (Peace and Allah’s mercy and blessings be upon you).
