Fasting the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. None can be Muslim without fasting Ramadan. Fasting is one of the most exalted rituals of worship, so it is important to remind making the intentions that enable us to invest this blessed month

 
 
 
 
 
Dedicating the intention of worship to The Creator of the creatures
 

Fasting

Fasting the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam. None can be Muslim without fasting Ramadan. Fasting is one of the most exalted rituals of worship, so it is important to remind making the intentions that enable us to invest this blessed month to obtain the freedom from the hellfire and gain treasures of rewards. May Allah help us all in investing all times in the good deeds. Allah is The One Who facilitates the way to the good deeds, and He is The One Who gives rewards for them.

Note: The heart is the place of the intention, so it should not be uttered.

We dedicate our intention for:

Achieving piety:

Allah almighty says: “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous” [Al-Baqarah 2:183]


{يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الصِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ}
البقرة: 183

Transliteration: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo kutiba AAalaykumu alssiyamu kama kutiba AAala allatheena min qablikum laAAallakum tattaqoona

Fulfilling the superstructure of Islam:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “The superstructure of Islam is raised on five (pillars), i. e. the oneness of Allah, the establishment of prayer, payment of Zakat, the, fast of Ramadan, and Pilgrimage (to Mecca) for whoever affords it.” [Agreed upon].


‹‹بني الإسلام على خمس، شهادة أن لاإله إلا الله وأن محمد رسول الله، وإقامة الصلاة، وإيتاء الزكاة، وصيام رمضان، وحج البيت من استطاع إليه سبيلا››
متفق عليه

Gaining freedom from the hellfire:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Every night at the breakfast, Allah almighty free some (sinful) Muslims from the hellfire.” [Declared Hasan (good) by Al-Albani]


‹‹إن لله تعالى عند كل فطر عتقاء من النار وذلك في كل ليلة››
حسنه الألباني
Forgiving the sins:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “He who observed prayer at night during Ramadan, because of faith and seeking his reward from Allah, his previous sins would be forgiven.” [Agreed upon]


‹‹من صام رمضان إيماناً واحتسابا غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه››

The Gate of Rayyan:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “In Paradise there is a gate which is called Rayyan through which only the observers of fast would enter on the Day on Resurrection. None else would enter along with them. It would be proclaimed: Where are the observers of fast that they should be admitted into it? -and when the last of them would enter, it would be closed and no one would enter it.” [Agreed upon]


‹‹إن في الجنة باباً يقال له الريان يدخل منه الصائمون يوم القيامة لا يدخل منه أحد غيرهم، يقال أين الصائمون؟ فيقومون لا يدخل منه أحد غيرهم، فإذا دخلوا أغلق فلم يدخل منه أحد››
متفق عليه

Ramadan is expiation:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Five prayers and from one Friday prayer to (the next) Friday prayer is an expiation (of the sins committed in between their intervals) if major sins are not committed.” [Narrated by Muslim]


‹‹الصلوات الخمس. والجمعة إلى الجمعة . ورمضان إلى رمضان . مكفرات ما بينهن . إذا اجتنب الكبائر››
رواه مسلم

The intercession of fasting:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Fasting and the Holy Quran will be intercessors to the slave on the Day of Resurrection. Fasting would say; ‘O my Lord, I had prevented him from food and drink all the day, so make me intercessor to him.’ And the Quran would say; ‘O my Lord, I had prevented him from sleeping at night, so make me intercessor to him.’ Then, they would be given the intercession.” [Authenticated by Al-Albani]


‹‹الصيام و القرآن يشفعان للعبد يوم القيامة ، يقول الصيام : أي رب إني منعته الطعام و الشهوات بالنهار فشفعني فيه ، يقول القرآن رب منعته النوم بالليل فشفعني فيه ، فيشفعان ››
صحيح الألباني

Gaining the reward of Lailat-ul- Qadr:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “He who observed prayer on Lailat-ul- Qadr with faith and seeking reward (from Allah), all his previous sins would be forgiven.” [Agreed upon]


‹‹من قام ليلة القدر إيمانا واحتسابا، غفر له ما تقدم من ذنبه››
متفق عليه

Getting away from the hellfire:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “He who fasts a day for Allah’s sake, Allah would get him away from the hellfire such and such distance.” [Narrated by An-Nasaey]


‹‹من صام يوماً في سبيل الله، باعد الله وجهه عن النار سبعين خريفاً››
سنن النسائي

Achieving sincerity and observing oneself deeds:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Every good deed of Adam's son is for him except fasting; it is for Me. and I shall reward (the fasting person) for it.” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari & Muslim]


«كل عمل ابن آدم له إلا الصيام فإنه لي وأنا أجزي به»
صحيح البخاري ومسلم

Umra suffices for Hajj:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Umra during the month of Ramadan would suffice for Hajj” or “Hajj along with me” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari & Muslim]

Entering paradise:

When Abu Omama asked the prophet, peace be upon him, to guide him to some work enable him to enter paradise; the prophet peace be upon him said: “Observe fasting because there is nothing equal it.” [Narrated by An-Nassaey]


‹‹ أتيت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقلت مرني بأمر آخذه عنك قال عليك بالصوم ، فإنه لا مثل له››
رواه النسائي

Fasting perpetually:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “He who observed the fast of Ramadan and then followed it with six (fasts) of Shawwal; it would be as if he fasted perpetually.” [Declared Hasan (good) by At-Tirmizi]


«من صام رمضان وأتبعه بست من شوال فقد صام الدهر »
حسنه الترمذي

Having two occasions of joy:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “There are two occasions of joy for one who fasts, joy when he breaks it, and joy when he meets his Lord.” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari & Muslim]


‹‹للصائم فرحتان يفرحهما، إذا فطر فرح، وإذا لقي ربه فرح بصومه››
الصحيحين

Following the Sunnah of the prophet by practicing the etiquettes and Sunnan of fasting:


Invoking Allah: “There are three persons whom their invoke would never be rejected; the rightful ruler, the one who is fasting (till he breaks his fasting) and who is maltreated.” [Narrated by Bin Majja]


‹‹ثلاثة لا ترد دعوتهم، الإمام عادل، والصائم حتى يفطر، ودعوة المظلوم››
رواه ابن ماجة

Hastening the breaking of the fast: “The people will continue to prosper, as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast.” [Agreed upon]

‹‹لا يزال الناس بخير ما عجلوا الفطر››
متفق عليه

Delaying Al-Suhur: “My Ummah will continue to prosper as long as they hasten the breaking of the fast and delay Al-Suhur.” [Narrated by Ahmed]

‹‹لا تزال أمتي بخير ما عجلوا الفطر وأخروا السحور››
صحيح، رواه أحمد

Using the tooth stick (Siwak): “Were it not that I might over-burden the people; I would have ordered them to use tooth stick at every time of prayer.” [Agreed upon]

‹‹لولا أن أشق على أمتي لأمرتهم بالسواك مع كل صلاة››
متفق عليه واللفظ للبخاري

Itikaf: “The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to perform Itikaf every year in the month of Ramadan for ten days, and when it was the year of his death, he stayed in Itikaf for twenty days.” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari]

‹‹كان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يعتكف في كل رمضان عشرة أيام فلما كان العام الذي قبض فيه اعتكف عشرين يوماً››
البخاري

Providing food as a breakfast for who fasts:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “He who provides food (as a breakfast) to the one who is fasting, he would have rewards equal to him without any deduction from his rewards.” [Narrated by Al-Albani]


‹‹من فطر صائماً كان له مثل أجره غير أنه لا ينقص من أجره شيئا››
الألباني

Eating Ajwa dates as a breakfast:

The prophet, peace be upon him, used to eat some Ajwa dates (as a breakfast) before going to the prayer. If he did not find Ajwa dates, he would then eat some dray dates. If he did not find dray dates, he would drink some water.” [Authenticated by Al-Albnai, Sahih Al Jame’]


‹‹ كان يفطر على رطبات قبل أن يصلي، فإن لم تكن رطبات فتمرات، فإن لم تكن تمرات حسى حسوات من الماء ››
صحيح الجامع

Disagreeing the disbelievers and Infidels:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Whoever imitates people is considered as one of them.” [Narrated by Abu Dawud]


‹‹من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم››
رواه أبو داود

He also said: “Al-Suhur meal is the difference between our fasting and the fasting of the people of the book.” [Narrated by Muslim]

‹‹ فصل ‏ ‏ما بين صيامنا وصيام ‏ ‏ أهل الكتاب ‏ ‏ أكلة السحر ››
رواه مسلم

Having the rewards of the rituals of worship doubled; whether it is prayer at night, reading to the Holy Quran, performing Umra, giving charity, kindness with relatives …etc.

Narrowing the way of Satan:

The prophet, peace be upon him, said: “Satan circulates in the body of man the circulation of blood” [Narrated by Al-Bukhari]


‹‹إن الشيطان يجري من ابن آدم مجرى الدم››
رواه البخاري

Fasting narrows blood vessels, so the way of Satan becomes narrower.

May Allah open to us all the gates of obedience and good deeds
