Among the reasons of bosoms

Since 2012-11-18

Imam Ibn Al-Jawzy said: "I had a problem that caused me great constant grief, and I thought hard escape this grief by anyway but in vain. Then I remembered this verse {And whosoever fears Allah and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty).

Among the reasons of bosoms; cheeriness openness

Allah has created man in this life and facilitated to him reasons and causes for the rightness of his psychological and physical state, if he utilized them well and is acquainted with them. Indeed; man is in toil with the status of his self, in this worldly life {Verily, We have created man in toil} [Surat Al-Balad: 4].

Transliteration: Laqad khalaqna alinsana fee kabadin

He is in suffering with himself, with the insinuations of Satan and with the hardships of life. In sometimes he gains victory and in other times he suffers defeat. He feels joy and sorrow; he laughs and weeps … etc. Indeed; life does not exempt anybody from its troubles.

People vary in standing for it; some stumble, so they become slow; others combat themselves, so they suffer, and the troubles of life may come to them one after another.

Among the troubles of life is a case many people suffer from (actually; if we said that nobody is safe from it, we would be far from truth) and they vary in this case; some take much and others take little.

Verily, breast’s constriction and the anxious and insomnia that sometimes afflict the Muslim is something could come to everyone of us; it may take long time with some people and take short time with others.

You see the man, after being afflicted with this case, depressed and vanquished has his mood altered and his self forsook him. He may loathe food and drink and fall in weep, sadness, estrangement and absence of mind. Furthermore; one of these symptoms may defeat him and lead him to complain to everyone he meets without exerting any effort for combating himself.

The person who sits with him, and everybody looks at him, sees him wearing clothes of grief and solicitude none knows them better than Allah. He surrenders totally to the devil; so he exposes to you despair, hopelessness and complaints could close many of the gates of relief and comfort. In fact, some of those people may follow Satan to extreme extents and be on the verge of taking steps that could change the whole course of their lives; such as divorcing wife, leaving their Job or changing residence with its consequences; furthermore, they may go to suicide, and this illustrates how much Satan controls them.

Grief has a material and immaterialist causes, and it may be unexpected with no known reason.

The point is that bosoms’ constriction sometimes makes the servant imprisoned in the jail of suspicions and obsessions; so, this poor person stays in the captive of Satan’s deceit, held by Satan’s insinuations and the weakness of his combat.

Dear Muslim brother and sister

Because many Muslims are afflicted with this case that affects their worship and behaviors; it became suitable to talk about the reasons that facilitate breast’s openness and move it from the haze that darkened its sight to where it could feel psychological comfort and inner tranquility.

Therefore, we could say (after seeking success from Allah Almighty) that the reasons of breast’s openness are many, and it is sufficient to mention here eight of these reasons hoping that they would include what are not mentioned.

• The first reason: Strength of monotheism

Among the greatest reasons for breast’s openness and expelling the grief, rather it is the greatest and biggest of all, is the strength of monotheism and putting trust in Allah Almighty. This is to believe unwavering belief that it is Allah alone (the Exalted and Glorious) Who brings good and prevents the evil, and to believe that there is none could prevent His destiny or alter His judgment; He is Just in His judgment; gives whomever He desires with His justice; and He wrongs no body. Therefore, the servant should care for filling up his heart with these believes and their consequences; then, Allah would make his grief vanish and grant him with security after his fear.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayim (may Allah Almighty mercy him) said: “Loving Allah Almighty, knowing Him, remembering Him all the time, having tranquility and serenity in His nearness and having Him as the Only One to love and fear and ask and trust in and deal with till it is He alone. Who seizes the servant’s interests and intentions. He is the Paradise of the worldly life and the felicity that has no like; it is the delight of the eye of those who love Allah and it is the life of those who know Him.”

• The second reason: Expecting the good from Allah

Expect the good from Allah Almighty by feeling that He would surly relief your grief and solicitude. When the servant expects good from His Lord, He would open to him the gates of His blessings from where he does not expect. Therefore, expect good from your Lord to see what pleases you. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayra (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty said; ‘I am accordant to the think of My servant; if he expected good from Me, it is for him; and if he expected evil from Me, it is for him’” [Reported by Ahmad and Ibn Hibban, authentic].

«قال الله جل وعلا: أنا عند ظن عبدي بي، إن ظن خيرا فله، وإن ظن شرا فله» رواه الامام أحمد وابن حبان، صحيح

Thereupon, you should expect good from Allah and put your trust in Him; also, you should beware of expecting evil from Allah, because this is destructive. Allah Almighty says: {who think evil thoughts about Allâh: for them is a disgraceful torment. And the Anger of Allâh is upon them, and He has cursed them and prepared Hell for them - and worst indeed is that destination} [Surat Al-Fath: 6].

Transliteration: WayuAAaththiba almunafiqeena waalmunafiqati waalmushrikeena waalmushrikati alththanneena biAllahithanna alssawi AAalayhim dairatu alssawi waghadiba Allahu AAalayhim walaAAanahum waaAAadda lahum jahannama wasaat maseeran

• The third reason: Invoking Allah much

Invoke Allah and repeat your asking from Him much. O you who felt constriction in the bosom and got stumbled in the troubles, raise the palms of supplication to your Lord and talk to Him about your grief and complaint and shed the tears between His Hands; and know, May Allah Almighty guard you, that He is more kind toward you than your mother, father, wife and children.

It is narrated that Omar Ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “A group of prisoners of war had been brought to the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him), then a woman among this group was seen milking her breast searching (for her boy). Whenever she finds a boy, she takes him and sticks him to her stomach then breast feeds him. Thereupon, the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said to us: ‘Do you think that this woman could cast her child in fire?’ We said: ‘No, as long as she is able to save him from that’ hereupon he said: ‘Allah is kinder toward His servants than the kindness of this woman toward her child’” [Agreed upon].

«قدم على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سبي، فإذا امرأة من السبي قد تحلب ثديها تسقي، إذا وجدت صبيا في السبي أخذته، فألصقته ببطنها وأرضعته، فقال لنا النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: ( أترون هذه طارحة ولدها في النار ). قلنا: لا، وهي تقدر على أن لا تطرحه، فقال: ( لله أرحم بعباده من هذه بولدها )» متفق عليه

• The fourth reason: Hastening to abstaining from the sins

You should watch yourself and hasten to abstaining from the sins. Do you want a way out while you are indulged in some sins?! How strange you are! You seek the needs of yourself from Allah although you forget your offenses. Did not you know (may Allah guide you) that committing the sins is a great gate for the coming of the disasters?! {And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much} [Ash-Shura: 30]

Transliteration: Wama asabakum min museebatin fabima kasabat aydeekum wayaAAfoo AAan katheerin

{(What is the matter with you?) When a single disaster smites you, although you smote (your enemies) with one twice as great, you say: "From where does this come to us?" Say (to them), "It is from yourselves (because of your evil deeds)." And Allâh has power over all things} [Surat Al-Imran: 165]

Transliteration: Awalamma asabatkum museebatun qad asabtum mithlayha qultum anna hathaqul huwa min AAindi anfusikum inna Allaha AAala kulli shayin qadeerun

Al-Abbas Ibn Abdel-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed the prayer of Istisqa’ (rain) and said in his invocation: “O Allah, no punishment comes down unless there is a sin is committed, and it is not taken away unless there is repentance.” Imam Ibn Al-Qayim (may Allah Almighty have mercy on him) said: “Bosom’s constriction and heart’s hardness, dispersion, darkness, antagonisms, solicitudes, grief, sadness and fear are punishment for the sinful person. Actually, this is surly known by whoever has any sense and life. In fact, the solicitude, grief, sadness and breast’s constriction are speedy punishments, worldly fire and present hellfire. On the other hand, going to Allah Almighty, repentance, being pleased with Him and because of Him, having the heart filled with loving Him, remembering Him much, and feeling joy and pleasure because of knowing Him are speedy reward, paradise and life far above being compared with the life of kings …” (Al-Wabil As-Sayyib)

Therefore, you (may Allah guard you) should haste to reckoning yourself, reckoning of justice and truthfulness; you should reckon yourself the reckoning of the person who wants the pleasure of Allah and the good for Himself. If you were negligent in observing prayer or Zakat or any other act enjoined by Allah, or were perpetrator to what is made inviolable by Allah, You should hasten to reforming yourself and fighting yourself for achieving this reform, then you will see from your Lord what will open your breast and facilitate your affairs {As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allâh’s religion - Islâmic Monotheism). And verily, Allâh is with the Muhsinûn (good doers)."} [Surat Al-Ankabut: 69]

Transliteration: Waallatheena jahadoo feenalanahdiyannahum subulana wainna Allaha lamaAAa almuhsineena

{And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty). And He will provide him from (sources) he never could imagine} [Surat At-Talaq: 2-3]

Transliteration: waman yattaqi Allaha yajAAal lahu makhrajan (2)Wayarzuqhu min haythu la yahtasibu

And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make his matter easy for him} [Surat At-Talaq: 4]

Transliteration: waman yattaqi Allaha yajAAal lahu min amrihi yusran

{and whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will expiate from him his sins, and will enlarge his reward} [Surat At-Talaq: 5].

Transliteration: waman yattaqi Allaha yukaffir AAanhu sayyiatihi wayuAAthim lahu ajran

Therefore, you (may Allah guide you) should hasten to fearing Allah, and you will see from your Lord nothing except what pleases you by His will. Imam Ibn Al-Jawzy said: “I had a problem that caused me great constant grief, and I thought hard escape this grief by anyway but in vain. Then I remembered this verse {And whosoever fears Allâh and keeps his duty to Him, He will make a way for him to get out (from every difficulty)} [Surat At-Talaq: 2];

Transliteration: waman yattaqi Allaha yajAAal lahu makhrajan

Thereupon, I realized that fearing Allah is reason for getting out any grief. Then; when I began applying fearing Allah, I found the way for getting out …” (Sayd Al-Khatir: 153)

• The fifth reason: Persistent observation to the obligatory acts of worship

You should observe the obligatory acts of worship persistently and observe much of the supererogatory prayers, fasts and charities; indeed this is one of the reasons of gaining the love of Allah Almighty. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave seeks proximity to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears with, and his sense of sight with which he sees with, and his hand with which he grips with, and his leg with which he walks with; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) …” [Reported by Al-Bukhari].

• The sixth reason: Accompanying the righteous people

You should accompany the righteous people and have the pleasure of hearing their speeches and taking benefits from their sayings and guidance. In fact, sitting with such people leads to Allah’s satisfaction and Satan’s dissatisfaction. Therefore, when you sit with them and ask their advice, you will find openness and pleasure in your breast. Also, you should beware of loneliness and sitting with no friend, especially when you are in trouble; because Satan increases servant’s weakness and feebleness when he finds him alone. Satan is closer to the sole person and is further than the two persons and is not with the three persons; he is like the wolf which catches the sheep that abandons the flock.

The point is to care (may Allah Almighty help you) for not sitting alone. You should do your best to accompany the righteous pious people, attending the lectures and sermons and visiting the scholars and the seekers of knowledge; because these things give you geniality and leads to increasing your faith and knowledge.

• The seventh reason: Reciting the Holy Quran

Recite the Holy Quran in contemplation and deep thinking. In fact, this is one of the great reasons for relieving grief, solicitudes and sorrows. Reciting the Holy Quran brings rest in the heart and cheer in the bossom {Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism), and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allâh: verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest} [Surat Ar-Ra’d: 28].

Transliteration: Allatheena amanoo watatmainnu quloobuhum bithikri Allahi ala bithikri Allahi tatmainnu alquloobu

Imam Ibn Kathir (may Allah Almighty have mercy on him) said: “It means that their hearts feel goodness and relief in the nearness of Allah Almighty and feel tranquility when remembering Him and feel satisfaction with Him as Lord and Supporter. That is why He Almighty said: {verily, in the remembrance of Allâh do hearts find rest}; which means that He affirms that.”

Therefore, you (may Allah guard you) should care most for reciting it during some hours of the night and at the ends of the day, and you should ask your Lord to make your reciting reason for your heart’s cheeriness; because when the servant honestly moves closer to Allah, He bestows upon him from His great blessings {O mankind! There has come to you a good advice from your Lord (i.e. the Qur’ân, enjoining all that is good and forbidding all that is evil), and a healing for that (disease of ignorance, doubt, hypocrisy and differences) which is in your breasts, - a guidance and a mercy (explaining lawful and unlawful things) for the believers.} [Surat Yunus: 57]

Transliteration: Ya ayyuha alnnasu qad jaatkum mawAAithatun min rabbikum washifaon lima fee alssudoori wahudan warahmatun lilmumineena

{And We send down of the Qur’ân that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islâmic Monotheism and act on it), and it increases the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) nothing but loss} [Surat Al-Isra: 82]

Transliteration: Wanunazzilu mina alqurani ma huwa shifaon warahmatun lilmumineena walayazeedu alththalimeena illa khasaran

• The eighth reason: Remembrances of the morning and evening

You should constantly say the remembrances of the morning and evening and sleeping and the remembrances of the day and night; because these remembrances fortify the Muslim servant, by the will of Allah Almighty, from the evil of men and jinn devils. Moreover, they give to the servant material and immaterial power, when he says them while feeling their meanings and believing in their fruits and consequences. Also, you (may Allah guard you) should care most for those remembrances that should be said at the time of facing grief or solicitude. Those remembrances include what is reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father too): “The Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) used to supplicate during the time of trouble (in these words): “There is no God except Allah, the Great, the Tolerant. There is no God except Allah, the Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no God except Allah, Lord of the Heavens and earth, Lord of the Majestic Throne.”

«لا إله إلا الله العظيم الحليم ، لا إله إلا الله رب العرش العظيم ، لا إله إلا الله رب السماوات ورب الأرض ، ورب العرش الكريم» متفق عليه

And what is reported by Al-Bukhari on the authority of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) “Used to say much; ‘O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the solicitude, grief, incapability and laziness …”

«اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الهم والحزن، والعجز والكسل...» رواه البخاري

And it is narrated that Abdullah Ibn Mas’oud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) used to say when feeling grief or solicitude: ‘O You Who are Ever Living, Who sustains and protects all that exists, I seek refuge with Your mercy’” [Declared Hasan (good) by Al-Albani].

«يا حي ، يا قيوم ، برحمتك أستغيث» حسنه الألباني

And it is narrated on the authority of Abu Bakara (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah said: “The invocation of the anguished person is ‘O Allah, I seek Your mercy; so, do not let me to myself for a flicker of an eye, and reform to me all my affairs. There is no God except You’” [Reported by Abu Dawud and declared Hasan (good) by Al-Albani].

«دعوات المكروب اللهم رحمتك أرجو فلا تكلني إلى نفسي طرفة عين وأصلح لي شأني كله لا إله إلا أنت» رواه أبو داود وحسنه الألباني

And it is narrated on the authority of Abdullah Ibn Masoud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whenever a servant feels grief or solicitude and says: ‘O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your bondwoman, my forehead is in Your hand, Your ruling is accomplished upon me, Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You with every name You attributed to Yourself, reviled in Your Book, taught to one of Your creatures or kept to Yourself in the divine secret to make the Quran the pleasure of my heart, the light of my breast and the reliever of my grief and the end of my solicitude’ Allah will surly relief his grief and solicitude and substitute them with pleasure” [Reported by Ahmad in his Musnad and authenticated by Al-Albani].

This is in addition to many other remembrances are mentioned in this regard and its like.

And prayers and peace of Allah be upon our prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
