Renouncing the Enemy

Since 2012-12-23

Nowadays, this issue became a target to the arrows of the enemies and those who followed them from among the seculars and simple people. This creed became accused, not by the infidels only; rather by many people who declare their selves as Muslims..!!

All praise is due to Allah, and prayers and peace of Allah be upon the Messenger of Allah.
Abu Al-Wafa Ibn Okail said: “If you want to know the relation between the people of any time and Islam; do not look at their crowdedness on the gates of Masjids, or look at their cry in Hajj ‘Labaik Allahumma Labaik’; rather you should look at their harmony with the enemies of the Shari’ah." Indeed the issue of taking the infidels supporters and not renouncing them is one of the greatest issues that took great portion in the Book of Allah the Exalted and Glorious and had been elaborated much in the Sunnah of the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him). This is because it is crossroads between Muslims and others (i.e. Jews, Christians and all other polytheists). Allah the Exalted and Glorious declared their infidelity in more than one place in His Book; He Almighty said: "Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allah is the Messiah [‘Îsa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)."" [Surat Al-Maidah 5: 72]

Transliteration: Laqad kafara allatheena qaloo inna Allaha huwa almaseehu ibnu maryama

"Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity)." But there is no Ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilah (God -Allah)" [Surat Al-Maidah 5: 73].

Transliteration: Laqad kafara allatheena qaloo inna Allaha thalithu thalathatin wamamin ilahin illailahun wahidun

Nowadays, this issue became a target to the arrows of the enemies and those who followed them from among the seculars and simple people. This creed became accused, not by the infidels only; rather by many people who declare their selves as Muslims while they think in favor of the infidels and for their sake. The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) mentioned those people and said that they are callers at the gates of hellfire and described them as people from among us who speak the way we speak. The enmity of such people is for no reason but their hate to Islam, although they talk by its tongue. They are like their forefathers who used to say when meeting the believers ‘We believed’, but when they are alone with their devils they would say ‘We are with you’. Indeed, they are with the infidels and among them, even if they named themselves like the Muslims and wore their clothes; the essences and facts are what should be taken into consideration, not the names. This is the fact of the enmity of those people. However, the simple Muslims who targeted the advocators of this issue did so because they do not know the relation between this issue and the pillars of the religion. Allah Almighty said: "And had they believed in Allah, and in the Prophet (Muhammad prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) and in what has been revealed to him, never would they have taken them (the disbelievers) as Auliya’ (protectors and helpers); but many of them are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah)" [Surat Al-Maidah 5: 81].

Transliteration: Walaw kanoo yuminoona biAllahi waalnnabiyyi wamaonzila ilayhi maittakhathoohum awliyaa walakinna katheeran minhum fasiqoona

Therefore, faith could not join in ones heart with loving and supporting the enemy. Also, those simple Muslims thought that this issue is contrary to the magnanimity of Islam and Muslims. It seems that they thought there is contradiction between the verses that enjoin renouncing the polytheists and infidels and the other verses that enjoin justice and fairness with whomever did not fight us; such as the saying of Allah Almighty: "Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion nor drove you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity" [Surat Al-Mumtahinah 60: 8].

Transliteration: Layanhakumu Allahu AAani allatheena lam yuqatilookum fee alddeeni walam yukhrijookum min diyarikum an tabarroohum watuqsitoo ilayhim inna Allaha yuhibbu almuqsiteena

Indeed this verse enjoins justice and fairness, as Allah ordered us to look at the Islamic legislation by the eye of justice and fairness, which could be fulfilled by practicing all the obligations of the religion; not taking some and neglecting some. Allah Almighty said: "O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of the Islamic religion) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan [Satan). Verily! He is to you a plain enemy" [Surat Al-Baqarah 2: 208].

Transliteration: Yaayyuhaallatheenaamanoo odkhuloo fee alssilmi kaffatan walatattabiAAoo khutuwati alshshaytani innahu lakum AAaduwwun mubeenun

As Allah ordered us to be fair and just with the infidels, He ordered us to hate them and not to like or support or follow them. He declared to us that whoever does not do so is not one of the believers; rather he is one of the hypocrites; He Almighty said: "You (O Muhammad prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad prayers and peace of Allah be upon him), even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the Party of Allah. Verily, it is the Party of Allah that will be the successful" [Surat Al-Mujadilah 58: 22],

Transliteration: Latajidu qawman yuminoona biAllahi waalyawmi alakhiri yuwaddoona manhadda Allaha warasoolahu walaw kanooabaahum aw abnaahum aw ikhwanahum aw AAasheeratahum olaika kataba fee quloobihimu aleemana waayyadahum biroohin minhu wayudkhiluhum jannatin tajree min tahtihaalanharu khalideena feeharadiya Allahu AAanhum waradoo AAanhu olaikahizbu Allahi alainnahizba Allahi humu almuflihoona

and He almighty said: "Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Auliya [Supporters, helpers) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them. And Allah warns you against Himself (His punishment), and to Allah is the final return" [Surat Al-Imran 3: 28].

Transliteration: Layattakhithi almuminoona alkafireena awliyaa min dooni almumineena waman yafAAalthalika falaysa mina Allahi fee shayin illaan tattaqoo minhum tuqatan wayuhaththirukumu Allahu nafsahu wailaAllahi almaseeru

Ibn Jarir said in his interpretation to this verse: “It means that you, the believers, should not take the disbelievers as supporters and allies support them in their religion, take them as supporters against the Muslims, and display to them the weak points of the Muslims. Indeed whoever does that will never be helped by Allah in any way. Allah Almighty said: "And you see those in whose hearts there is a disease (of hypocrisy), they hurry to their friendship, saying: "We fear lest some misfortune of a disaster may befall us." Perhaps Allah may bring a victory or a decision according to His Will. Then they will become regretful for what they have been keeping as a secret in themselves" [Surat Al-Maidah 5: 52],

Transliteration: Fataraallatheena fee quloobihim maradun yusariAAoona feehim yaqooloona nakhshaan tuseebanadairatun faAAasaAllahu an yatiya bialfathi aw amrin min AAindihi fayusbihoo AAalamaasarroo fee anfusihim nadimeena

and He almighty said: "Give to the hypocrites the tidings that there is for them a painful torment. Those who take disbelievers for Auliya’ (protectors or helpers or friends) instead of believers, do they seek honour, power and glory with them? Verily, then to Allah belongs all honour, power and glory" [Surat An-Nisa 4: 138-139].

Transliteration: Bashshiri almunafiqeena bianna lahum AAathaban aleeman (138) Allatheena yattakhithoona alkafireena awliyaa min dooni almumineena ayabtaghoona AAindahumu alAAizzata fainna alAAizzata lillahi jameeAAan (139)

Justice with them requires, from us, to answer their greeting; not to initiate it. The Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to go to the narrowest part of it” [reported by Muslim]; because this is a sign for Muslim’s dignity.

However, hating them should not prevent us from having commercial transactions with them, accepting their gifts and presenting gifts to them to attract their hearts and prevent their evil. Also, this should not prevent us from visiting their patients to call them for Islam.
The most important stops in this issue, which the Muslim should ponder on, include, not congratulating them in their holidays or resembling them, because this is contrary to what is clear in Islam. In their holiday, which is called Easter day, they celebrate because they believe that their god died and stayed among the deceased for three days then got up and his rise from the grave became a holiday. Therefore, how could a Muslim who believes in Allah, the Ever Living Who does not die, congratulate them for the death of the god, in their creed, and his returning back after death! What a god they worship instead of Allah the Ever Living Who does not die! That is why it is obligatory for the Muslim to beware of this grave fall that could make him among the infidels; the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates (a group of) people, is (considered) one of them” [declared authentic by Al-Albani].

However, hating and not liking them should not allow us to betray who betrayed us, because betrayal and perfidy are not justice. The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Pay back the trust to whoever trusted you and do not betray whoever betrayed you” [declared authentic by Al-Albani].

Moreover, such people do not know that this issue is the fortress of Islam which prevents the infidels’ trespass and prevents Muslims from being melted among the infidels. The melt that the infidels want from Muslims is to get rid of their religion and its rituals; Allah Almighty said: "Never will the Jews nor the Christians be pleased with you (O Muhammad, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) till you follow their religion. Say: "Verily, the Guidance of Allah (i.e. Islamic Monotheism) that is the (only) Guidance. And if you (O Muhammad, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) were to follow their (Jews and Christians) desires after what you have received of Knowledge (i.e. the Qur’an), then you would have against Allah neither any Walî (protector or guardian) nor any helper" [Surat Al-Baqarah 2: 120).

Transliteration: Walan tardaAAanka alyahoodu walaalnnasarahattatattabiAAa millatahum qul inna hudaAllahi huwa alhudawalaini ittabaAAta ahwaahum baAAda allathee jaaka mina alAAilmi malaka mina Allahi min waliyyin walanaseerin

This is the melt that they want and exert efforts to achieve. Actually, Allah warned us from this melt when He Almighty said: "O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Auliya’ (friends, protectors, helpers), they are but Auliya’ of each other. And if any amongst you takes them (as Auliya’), then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers and unjust)" [Surat Al-Maidah 5: 51].

Ibn Hazm said in Al-Muhalla: “The apparent meaning is that he is one of the infidels. Indeed this is fact no two Muslims could disagree about.” Allah the Exalted and Glorious declared to us that our enmity with such people could end by achieving one aim; entering the religion of Allah, Islam, which Allah is pleased as religion to people and He will not accept any religion other than it. He Almighty said: "Truly, the religion with Allah is Islam"[Surat Al-Imran 3: 19]

Transliteration: Inna alddeena AAinda Allahi alislamu

"And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers" [Surat Al-Imran 3: 85].

Transliteration: Waman yabtaghi ghayra alislami deenan falan yuqbala minhu wahuwa fee alakhirati mina alkhasireena

He Almighty said: "Indeed there has been an excellent example for you in Ibrahîm (Abraham) and those with him, when they said to their people: "Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah: we have rejected you, and there has started between us and you hostility and hatred for ever until you believe in Allah Alone"" [Surat Al-Mumtahana 60: 4].

Transliteration: Qad kanat lakum oswatunhasanatun fee ibraheema waallatheena maAAahu ithqaloo liqawmihim innaburaao minkum wamimmataAAbudoona min dooni Allahi kafarnabikum wabadabaynanawabaynakumu alAAadawatu waalbaghdao abadanhattatuminoo biAllahi wahdahu

In this issue, we should not be shame of declaring our creed, which has the utmost shape of justice that is ordained by Allah. It is obligatory upon us to have this issue and this creed as model of life; not to make it connected only with the holidays and occasions of the infidels.
And prayers and peace of Allah be upon our prophet, Muhammad, and his family and companions.

And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
He is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs
