The Present of the Beloved in Solacing the Unwell

Since 2012-11-18

“No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

My Muslim brother, have you ever thought that this worldly life is the house of trials and hardships?

My ailing brother, do you not see that the most evidential thing that this worldly life is distressful is that the Prophets of Allah Almighty have experienced all types of its distresses?

Adam experienced adversity until he came out of this world (died). Noah cried for three hundred years. Ibrahim suffered from the fire and the slaughter of the son. Jacob wept until he went blind. Moses suffered from the Pharaoh, and Jesus, the son of Mary, did not have a shelter, except the wilderness and lived in poverty. Moreover, Muhammad, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him and upon all of the Prophets, suffered from poverty, and from the killing of his uncle Hamza, the most beloved of his relatives. However, if this worldly life is created for pleasure, a believer will not have a share of it. The Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has said, “This worldly life is a prison-house for a believer and Paradise for a non-believer.” [Reported by Muslim 2956]

«الدنيا سجن المؤمن وجنة الكافر» رواه مسلم

The Muslim is frequently afflicted

The disease that causes man to experience pains and ails is one of the stops for the Muslim to win the reward from Allah Almighty.

This worldly life is not carefree. This worldly life does not give a pure serenity that has no turbidity; rather, it is a mixture of those chagrins. Disease is one of these chagrins. O wise man, this is an admonition for you, and a warning to benefit from this lesson. Therefore, beware of grieving over its trials, as you will win a great reward.

My ailing brother, when the pains of disease afflicts you, remember the great reward you will win. The Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has said, “No fatigue, nor disease, nor sorrow, nor sadness, nor hurt, nor distress befalls a Muslim, even if it were the prick he receives from a thorn, but that Allah expiates some of his sins for that.” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

«ما يصيب المسلم من نصب ولا وصب، ولا هم ولا حزن ولا أذى ولا غم، حتى الشوكة يشاكها، إلا كفر الله بها من خطاياه» رواه البخاري

Remember the days of bliss

O you who has been ailed by the pains of diseases; O you who has raised the voice with complaint, who has expressed different colors of dismay, remember the days of bliss!

Abdul-Warith ibn Sa’îd visited a sick man. He asked him, “How are you feeling?

The man said, “I have not slept for forty nights.

He said, “O Man, you have counted the days of affliction, would you count the days of satisfaction?

My ailed brother, the days of safety are more numerous than the days of affliction. Allah Almighty says, {Verily, man (disbeliever) is ungrateful to his Lord.} [Surat Al-Adiyat 100:6]

{إِنَّ الْإِنسَانَ لِرَبِّهِ لَكَنُودٌ} العاديات: 6

Transliteration: Inna alinsana lirabbihi lakanoodun

He said, “Man remembers the trials but forgets the blessings.

The heedlessness of man about the secretes of the Divine plots

Ibn ‘Umar, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, said, “Truly, man seeks guidance from Allah and Allah chooses for him, however, he gets discontented with his Lord. Nevertheless, it does not take long before he looks into the consequences and sees that good has been destined for him.

Finally, O dear brother

-      You should know that not all trials are evil upon the afflicted.

-      Remember the magnitude of the reward and what Allah, Almighty, has prepared for those who are patient over adversities.

-      Authorize all your matters to Allah Almighty, and be satisfied with His judgment.

-      Know that Allah Almighty is not in need of harming you. However, ignorance has hid the wisdom behind that from you.

-      If harm has befallen you, remember that it was possible that a greater harm might have befallen you. Therefore, praise Allah Almighty for that.

-      Be patient in your illness, seeking and hoping for the reward from Allah.

-      Be confident in Allah Almighty, and do not let despair overcome you.

-      Know that healing is from Allah Almighty, so ask Him for recovery.

-      Whatever the disease is, know that a Muslim does not harvest anything from it but good.

-      Beware of complaining to the creatures. Forward your complaint to Him in Whose Hands is your recovery.
