A Message to Every Male & Female Student

Knowledge is too much and your hearts will never collect it all. So seek the best and most important of it.

 
 


In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

All Praises are to Allah Who has taught (the writing) by the pen. He has taught man that which he knew not. Peace and blessings be upon the Noble Prophet, Muhammad bin Abdullah, the trustful, and on all his household and companion.

I contemplated in life and for my wonder I found that every precious and great thing can be reached only through a long way and by exerting many efforts. Knowledge is the noblest thing in life so it can never be attained but through exerting many efforts, staying up all nights, repetition, giving up comforts and denying one's enjoyments. One of the great scholars said: I yearned to eat Harisa (some kind of sweet) for years and could not eat it as it was sold when my lecture was going on.

One of the poets was clever when he said:



Dear male and female students: I write this booklet for you out of friendship and brotherhood. I wish you attain useful knowledge and deed. Knowledge is like a sea that never dries and like metals that never run out. Our ages are too short to attain such knowledge so we have to get the most important of it. The one who preoccupies himself with matters of no value will never attain matters of value.

It was said:



Knowledge is too much and your hearts will never collect it all. So seek the best and most important of it.

Allah, the All Mighty, says: “Who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.” [Az-Zumur 39:18]

الزمر: 18

Transliteration: Allatheena yastamiAAoona alqawla fayattabiAAoona ahsanahu olaika allatheena hadahumu Allahu waolaika hum oloo alalbabi

The most integrated knowledge that make us complete when we attain it; is knowing Allah, His Names, His Attributes and Actions, His Commandment and Prohibitions.

Knowledge is noble when it leads to know a noble thing and when it is badly needed.




If you want to attain noble knowledge, you have to be sincere with your Lord, the All Mighty. Attaining knowledge is a kind of worship.

Some scholars said: "Knowledge is a silent prayer and the heart worship"

The base of worship is to be sincere with your Lord, the All Mighty. Allah, the All Mighty, says: “And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.” [Al-Bayyina 98:5]

Transliteration: Wama omiroo illa liyaAAbudoo Allaha mukhliseena lahu alddeena hunafaa wayuqeemoo alssalata wayutoo alzzakata wathalika deenu alqayyimati

Sincerity is the best ethic every male and female student should have. Beware the disease that afflicts tyrants: It is pride.

Pride and envy are the first sins which Satan disobeyed Allah with. So being impolite with teachers is a kind of arrogance and not respecting knowledge. Students have to be adorned with ethics, to listen carefully, to be in a good form, to be sober, respectable, humble, modest and to be good in appearance and in essence.

Students before learnt ethics as they learnt knowledge.

Students have to avoid playing, wasting time, spending their times in idle talks and nonsense, laughing in a loud voice, much joking, getting addicted to jesting. Joking should be only used very lightly and in some rare occasions provided that it is not violating any ethics or the sublimity of knowledge. Too much laughing and joking which brings only anger and evil is prohibited. You should also know that too much joking leads to diminish one's sublimity and integrity.

It was said: "The one who makes something too much, will be distinguished with that thing"





You have also to learn some ethics and work accordingly, the most important of which:



· Respecting teachers, estimating them, not interrupting them, asking them in a good manner and listening well to them.

· Thinking well of them

· Not calling them by their names but saying to them: my teacher or Sheikh.

· Respecting them; no backbiting them or making gossip about them, not mocking or ridiculing them.

· Following their good manners and ethics.

· Being patient if they are harsh and excusing them if they make mistakes.



· Beware bad fellows as they might transfer to you bad traits. People are affected by one another, so keep away from such bad fellows as prevention is better than cure.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: “A man follows his friend's religion, so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.” [Al-Tirmizi and Abu Dawud]

رواه الترمذي وابو داود

· Chose the friends who help you in your quest, make you closer to your Lord and help you reach noble purposes.

· You have also to accept their advices warmly and thank them gently.

· Do not mock them, do not keep aloof from them and do not envy them.

Remember Always that Allah, the All Mighty, says: “O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them;” [Al-Hujurât 49:11]

الحجرات: 11

Transliteration: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo la yaskhar qawmun min qawmin AAasa an yakoonoo khayran minhum

· Love for them what you love for yourself and hate for them what you hate for yourself.



· You have to keep your class clean, do not play with its contents and do not spoil them; because these contents were arranged only for your comfort and for those who will come after you.

· You have to be seated in a good manner and to wear good clothing



· You should revise and apply what you were taught and what your teacher told you on the same day.

· Do your homework on the same day so that the lesson would be engraved in your mind. Do not postpone what you can do now till tomorrow.

· Sleep early so that you can start your day actively and seriously.

· It is better to read your lessons before your teacher explains it to you because by this way you shall memorize and understand it easily when your teacher explains it.



Keep your religion, your knowledge and your nobility so that your value will be kept.









I started my talk with the wondering of when he said that every precious thing has a long way and entails many efforts. So knowledge is only attained through staying up nights and fatigue.

I end my talk with another wonder, it is that Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, despite the fact that he was a prophet, he followed a teacher to learn from him!

Allah, the All Mighty, says: “Moses said to him, "May I follow you on [the condition] that you teach me from what you have been taught of sound judgement?"” [Al Kahf 18:66]

Transliteration: Qala lahu moosa hal attabiAAuka AAala an tuAAallimani mimma AAullimta rushdan

We have then to follow our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him and learn from him the virtue and ethics of knowledge and to learn the virtue of teachers and how to respect them.

this is the effort of someone who wants the good for you. If I reached the correct way, then this is only from Allah and if I make mistakes, that is from myself and from Satan. May Allah guide us all to the right path.
