The Most Frequent Dua'a in Noble Sunna

Since 2017-08-23

Praise is due to Allah the Almighty, peace and blessings of Allah be upon the Prophet Muhammad, his Family, his Companions and whosoever follows him. Dua'a is a great act of worship in Islam and Allah the Almighty ordered us to make Dua’a in the Holy Qur’an, Allah the Almighty says:

وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ

(Interpretation of meaning):

“And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible” [Ghaafir:60].

Every Muslims has to understand the value of making Dua’a and has to seek the response from Allah the Almighty in time of prosperity and time of hardships. In Noble Sunna there are many forms of making Dua’a and here we emphasize on two forms of Dua’a that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) frequently said.

First Dua’a: Anas (may Allah the Almighty be pleased with him) said that the most frequent Dua'a of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was:

اللهم ربَّنا آتِنا في الدنيا حسنةً، وفي الآخِرةِ حسنةً، وقِنا عذابَ النارِ

(Interpretation of Hadith)

"Allahumma atina fid-dunya hasanatan, wa fil-akhirati hasanatan, wa qina 'adhab-annar [i.e “O our Lord, grants us the best in this life and the best in the next life, and protects us from the punishment of the Fire.”] (Agreed upon).

Second Dua’a: Shahr bin Hawshab said: I said to Umm Salamah (may Allah the Almighty be pleased with her): ‘O Mother of the Believers! What was the supplication that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said most frequently when he was with you? She said: ‘The supplication he said most frequently was:

يا مُقلِّبَ القلوبِ ثبِّت قلبي على دينِكَ

(Interpretation of Hadith)

“Yā Muqallibal-qulūb, thabbit qalbī `alā dīnik” [i.e “O Changer of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion”] (at-Tirmidhi)

We have to say the two mentioned Dua’a frequently as the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to say. Also, we have the duty to spread the knowledge of  Dua’a to others and encourage them to read more about the significance of Dua’a to every Muslim, in this life and lifeafter.
