- Categories: Biography of the Prophet -
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: The prophet's call unto the way of his Lord was clear and evident, for he called the people to worship Allah and none but him the Mighty; and to ostracize the idols and statues.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Three years after the beginning of the secret call unto islam; Allah سبحانه وتعالى revealed to his prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم a verse of Quran which indicated a new stage of spreading the message of Islam:
{فَاصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ} [الحجر: 94]
Interpretation of the meaning: "So shout that thou art commanded and turn thou away from the idolaters." [Al-Hijr: 94]
You've to call unto Islam openly, to preach the faith of the Allah and that there's no God but him and that you Muhammad is his messenger and everything on earth should submit to only him.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم called unto Islam everywhere in Mecca. He roamed the markets May my father and my mother and my own life be sacrificed for him. He went to Zu-Magaz, Megenna and 'Ukath Markets. He also called the delegations in Menah unto islam andapproached the people in their clubs and meeting places, telling them all 'Say no god but the Lord and you shall prosper'.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: As soon as the prophet began Calling unto Islam openly, the polytheists started their abusing and harassing acts.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: When the prophet saw Quraysh's abusing acts and his companions' sufferings, he decided to hold their meetings in a distant place from the nose of Quraysh, for If Quraysh knew each and every one of the believers they'd afflict them with dreadful torment.
Sheikh Tareq Al-hawas:The house of Al-Arqam bin Abi-AlArqam was deemed the suitable place for those meetings; for he was very young new Muslim, whom Quraysh didn't know about his embracing Islam, which the Prophet saw it to stay this way for the sake of their secrecy of meeting.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: So the prophet held his meetings with his companions every now and then there, as they discussed the problems they faced while calling unto Islam in Mecca among the idolators; and how could they face it.
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: The prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم took the house of Al-Arqam as the centre of spreading Islam whereby he صلى الله عليه وسلم gathers with his companions, preaching the Islam teachings, through which he made their hearts stronger and firmer in clinging to the right path of the Lord.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: So the prophet kept meeting his companions at that faithful, educational school, which Indeed it was the greatest school ever in history, and the most honored college of all. The best men graduated from it, this simple House of Al-Arqam. This school of the prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: and from the deepest of darkness emerged a bright promising light. It was Hamzah (the prophet's uncle) converting into Islam.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Back then, Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) was one of the bravest, stoutest and renowned warriors of Quraysh.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Hamzah was the prophet's uncle and his foster brother. He loved hunting very much. Once he went out of Mecca as his usual custom for hunting
Sheikh Ali Paqees: while he was in his hunting trip, Abu-Jahl heaped abuse and insults upon the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: One day the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم sat on the hillock of Safa, praying and supplicating to Allah when Abu-Jahl happened to pass by
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: While the prophet was worshiping his Lord, Abu-Jahl started insulting the prophet and Islam with the ugliest, most horrible insults. But the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم kept silent. Abu Jahl was agitated thenhe took a stone and cracked the Prophet's head which immediately began to bleed. and then he went off. A she-slave of Ibn-Jad'an witnessed that incident.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: Hamzah, while returning from his hunting expedition, his bow hanging by his shoulder; encountered the slave-girl of bin Jad'an, who had noted the impertinence of Abu Jahl, told him the whole story.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: On hearing that, Hamzah was deeply offended and agitated. How could Abu-Jahl insult and abuse my nephew!!
Sheikh Ali Paqees: Consequently Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) hurried seeking Abu-Jahl everywhere to avenge his nephew. Soon he found him int Al-Ka'bah sitting with a company of High-Status men of Quraysh. Hamzah then rushed upon him and struck his bow upon his head violently
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: then he said to him angrily:
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi:"you dare to insult Muhammad while I myself follow his religion and believe in it?"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: Immediately Abu-Jahl's tribe came to his help, and men of Bani Hashim wanted to render help, and a violent fight was about to break out, but Abu Jahl stopped his men saying:
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: "Let Abu 'Umarah alone, for indeed I did revile his nephew shamelessly." and the incident came to its end, but what great and grievous pain was it in the prophet's heart? He supplicate Allah to guide his people to the right path, persistently, devotedly trying to save them from Hell fire, while they abuse and harass him, may my father, mother and my own life be sacrificed for him. He صلى الله عليه وسلم said about his honored self: ' No one was made to be suffered for Allah's sake as myself'
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Before long Hamzah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم he wondered internally about what he told Abu Jahl, initially out of pride; ' Do I indeed believe in Muhammad's religion? Am I his follower?' He approached the prophet saying ' O Allah's apostle, O My nephew; would you preach to me about that religion you call unto?' No sooner did the prophet told him than he converted to Islam, testifying that there's no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger. His conversion to Islam was a great victory and strength to the Muslims' community.. May Allah be pleased with him.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: It was a victorious event, the greatest strength of all to the new Muslims' community. Soon after, 'Ummar bin Al-Khattab converted to Islam as well.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: it was the prophet habit to call the polytheists unto Islam and pray for them, how merciful he was! Among those prayers was "O Allah! Give strength to Islam through the one you love the most of those two men 'Umar bin Al-Khattab or Abu Jahl bin Hisham." before Long Allah chose 'Ummar bin Al-khattab for this honored role.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: One day, 'Umar bin Al-Khattab set out from his house, his heart full of hatred and excessive enmity towards the Prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Sword in hand, he has had enough with the prophet and his companions; what did he want? Where did he go?
Sheikh Ali Paqees: He wanted to murder the prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: A man from Bani Makhzum (clan) met him accidentally half way. "Where are you going 'Umar?" he inquired casually as he saw him fuming.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: He answered: 'to murder that man, that apostate, who has shattered the unity of Quraish and blasphemed their gods."
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: then the man said to him mockingly: 'Why don't you take care of your own sister and her husband first and set them right, don't you know that they embraced Islam?"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: 'Umar became extremely angry
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Immediately he head for his sister's house.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: As he drew near, he heard a voice reciting Quran verses from inside.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: It was Khabbab bin Al-Aratt's voice, teaching them how to recite Quran.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: As soon as they heard 'Umar's footsteps, they hid Khabbab quickly
Sheikh Ali Paqees: 'Umar knocked on their door, they asked "who?" and he answered: "Ibn Al-Khattabd"
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: He entered angrily and asked "What was that murmur I heard from inside your house?"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: they said: "nothing, we were having a bit of chat" 'Umar then said: "I have heard that you have apostatized, haven't you?" So Sa'id bin Zaid responded to him
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: "What if what we converted to was the right path, Would you join us then 'Umar?"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: As soon as 'Umar heard him, He plunged forward towards his brother-in-law and beat him severely
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Fatimah rushed to her husband aid; thereupon 'Umar struck his sister till she bleeded.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: the blood trickled down her cheeks; when 'Umar saw that scene before him
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: 'Umar felt for her; and was softened. He pitied his weak sister to endure his strong beating.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: She sternly looked at him and declared "I testify that there's no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: Just then, 'Umar cooled down and requested "let me see what you were reading" but she said "no you're unclean on the account of you idolatry"
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: "So go and wash first." He did so, and came back to her
Sheikh Ali Paqees: She gave him the page; supplicating Allah سبحانه وتعالى to open his heart to his religion. 'Umar opened the page and started reading. and how great was what he read in there! The words of Lord of all beings; which if descends on a mountain it'd rent asunder, and if set to motion by it, it would move, and if to split the earth crust, it would have splitted. In the name of Allah:
Interpretation of the meaning: "Ta. Ha. (1) We have not revealed unto thee (Muhammad) this Qur'an that thou shouldst be distressed, (2) But as a reminder unto him who feareth, (3) A revelation from Him Who created the earth and the high heavens, (4) The Beneficent One, Who is established on the Throne. (5) Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth, and whatsoever is between them, and whatsoever is beneath the sod. (6)] [Ta. Ha.: 1-6]
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: when he finished; he felt the faith within as he said " "How excellent it is, and how graceful!"
Sheikh Ali Paqees: and asked "what should one do to convert to Islam?" Khabbab then came out of his hide and said, "O 'Umar, I hope that Allah has answered the prayer of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم , for I heard him say: 'O Allâh! Strengthen Islam through either 'Umar bin Al-Khattab or Abu Jahl bin Hisham.'
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: without any delay, Umar embraced Islam; and he headed to the whereabouts of the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم to declare his conversion.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: they told him to go Al-Arqam bin Abi-Alarqam house, as he shall find the prophet there.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: he knocked on the door.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: the prophet's companions found out, it was none but 'Umar at the door
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: the prophet's companions got worried about him صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Ali Paqees: When Hamzah saw the fear in their faces, he asked, "Who was at the door"; they answered "'Umar bin Al-Khattab"
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Hamzah said with his strong prideful voice "Let him in. If he bears good intentions he is welcome. But if as a foe, he will have his head cut off with his own sword."
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Yet as soon as 'Umar entered The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم advanced to receive the fearful visitor, caught him by his garment and scabbard
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: "Did the time has not come yet 'Umar to submit to your Lord?" and the prophet repeated it.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: 'Umar said: "I testify that there's no god but Allah, and you Muhammad is his messenger" the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم together with his Companions, even the whole House cried aloud (Allah is Great), those cries which was heard in Mecca's roads.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: 'Umar embraced Islam; ever since it, the Muslims' felt honored and powerful (may Allah be pleased with him) he wish not to convert to Islam secretly as the rest have done; the light of faith and the new wisdom and powerful he acquired after conversion incited him to announce it openly; he said: ' O' Allah's apostle, I shall not leave a place I worshiped idols at, that I'll not worship and supplicate Allah at'
Sheikh Ali Paqees: They went out in two groups, Hamzah leading one and 'Umar the other, they circumambulate Al-Ka'bah, feeling the honor and power of 'Umar's conversion to Islam.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: The Number of Muslims increased rapidly
Sheikh Ali Paqees: people started embracing Islam in flocks, longing to know about the new religion.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: The prophet's call unto Islam was spreading and strengthening itself; which offended the pagans; therefore they used various methods to antagonize the prophet, to avert the people from Islam.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: They didn't let a method to distort and vituperate the prophet; the master of all beings صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: They insulted him, abused him openly, used strong-arm tactics by inflicting much harm and torture on his companions
Sheikh Ali Paqees: They would call him صلى الله عليه وسلم a madman, a soothsayer or a magician! Yet sometimes they did listen to the Holy Quran, as Abu Jahl once did, nonetheless he would turn away from it. Other times they would clap and dance upon hearing the Quran.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Although they knew how noble and great the prophet is, still they disbelieved him. How stubborn and arrogant were there! Their hearts are sealed and so they do not understand.
Holy Quran:
{كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنْ قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ} {ص:4}
Interpretation of the meaning: "They are surprised that a warner should come to them from among themselves. They say, "This is a magician, a great liar." [Sad: 4]
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Abu-Talib supported the prophet in an amazing way for polytheist to do so! He protected him, disdained Quraish for him and supported him with his money and his own self.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: therefore Quraysh approached Abu Talib to negotiate with him
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: they went to his place, meeting him they said
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: Your nephew has mocked our reason and blasphemed our idols.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: disdained our religion
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Abstain him from saying and doing so
Sheikh Ali Paqees: He spoke gently to them, and soon they left.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: before long, they returned again to negotiate with Abu talib
Sheikh Ali Paqees: They returned fiercer and spoke aggressively to Abu Talib
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Didn't we ask you to abstain your nephew. t's become a raging war between us and him, so bear in mind if you refused but to take sides with him; It's us or you and one of us shall prevail and the other perished.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: He went to the prophet afterwards and told him "O Muhammad, spare me and yourself. I couldn't afford confronting Quraysh"
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: The prophet thought his uncle was abandoning him.
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: Let us think for a while. Would you believe that the one who sacrificed himself and his past favorable reputation among his people, all for Allah' sake, may waver now? The prophet then said a word that was written in history in his name
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Sternly, firmly as mountains, he said:
Sheikh Ali Paqees: "O my uncle! By Allah if they put the sun in my right hand
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: and the moon in my left
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: on condition that I abandon this course, until Allah has made me victorious, or I perish therein, I would not abandon it."
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: "I'd not abandon it unless I'm dead" O' our prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم! may my mother and father be sacrificed for you
Sheikh Ali Paqees: the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم got up feeling his uncle has let him down and the one shoulder to lean on, has denied him. He, the master of those who put their trust in Allah
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Abu Talib admired his nephew's firmness, he called him back and said ' Go and preach whatever you please, for by Allah I will never forsake you unless I'm dead, by Allah! We shall never abandon you Muhammad, until we fall slain before you.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Those encouraged words, that solidarity pleased the prophet, he صلى الله عليه وسلم put his trust in Allah and went on spreading the message of Islam, calling the people unto a paradise as vast as heavens and earth.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: yet, no more than couple of days than Quraysh approached Abu Talib once more.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: this time with a new opinion and a new method
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: they said 'We warned you Abu Talib to put a stop to your nephew's activities, but you didn't comply, but here is 'Amarah bin Al-Waleed bin Al-Mugheerah, a smart boy still in the bloom of his youth, to make use of his mind and strength so take him
Sheikh Ali Paqees: as his son in exchange for the prophet, his nephew to be killed.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Abu talib laughed their words off and said 'I'm very astonished. To that extent you'd go haggling with me for my nephew's head!
Sheikh Ali Paqees: You give me your son to bring him up and I give you my son to kill him!
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Abu Talib drove them away, dismissing all their offers for the sake of the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: As all the previous schemes of Quraish had failed; they decided upon a new one; they told the prophet "O' Muhammad, What if we were to worship your Lord a year, and you worship our idols for a year as well, hence you won't blaspheme our gods and we won't harm you and your followers; and later on, one of us may follow the other' But Allah revealed to his prophet a firm rejection to those offers.
Holy Quran:
Interpretation of the meaning: "Say: O unbelievers! (1) I do not serve that which you serve, (2) Nor do you serve Him Whom I serve: (3) Nor am I going to serve that which you serve, (4) Nor are you going to serve Him Whom I serve: (5) You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion. (6)" [Al-Kafrun: 1-6]
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: the pagan Quraysh used various methods to avert people from the Way of Allaah The Almighty and distort the features of the message the prophet call unto.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: But neither did they succeed in divert people from around the prophet, nor could they put a stop to the prophet's calling unto Islam. Hence they became fiercer and meaner and they decided to use strong-arm tactics by inflicting much harm and torture upon the believers.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: indeed the prophet's companions have suffered much.
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: They started mocking the believers, harass them, laugh at them, scoffing at their social status, and calling them lowliest fellows! They said mockingly: Are those they whom Allah favored among us? Yes they are, ones who Allah exalted their fame; placed them upon all, well pleased with them, and they're well pleased with Allah till the Day of Judgment.
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Despite of those hardships and ordeals, their faith never wavered instead, increased greatly.
Holy Quran:
Interpretation of themeaining: "Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, We believe, and not be tried? (2) And certainly we tried those before them, so Allah will certainly know those who are true and He will certainly know the liars. (3)" [Al-Ankabot: 2-3]
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: Quraysh not only inflicted its harm on the prophet, but also on his companions; whom believed in him and followed him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: Some among the believers were of high social standing, like Mus'ab bin 'Umair
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: His mother was an extremely rich noble woman, who never deprived her son from the least of things.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: He indeed was Mecca's most luxurious young man, living lavishly and comfortably.
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: Mus‘ab enjoyed the best of food, finest dresses and the best perfumes. Whenever Mus‘ab passed through the streets, dressed in precious clothes and profusely perfumed, the sweet smell scented the atmosphere all around, Then Mus'ab embraced Islam.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: His mother deprived him then every luxuriant means of living and forbade him to eat or drink, tortured him to the extent that his skin colored paled and peeled off, and his body emaciated.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: but his faith (may Allah be pleased with him) never faltered, his faith was firm till the last moment of his life in the battle of Uhud. He who was the most pampered young man, when was killed in the battle had only a sheet of cloth over his body; if the head was covered, the feet were bare and when the feet were covered the head was left bare. At last the prophet said to cover his head with it and the feet be covered with grass. Such was his only shroud (may Allah be pleased with him).
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: Aslo, among those believers who were tortured were Yasser's family
Sheikh Ali Paqees: A group of the weaker believers, and lower in their social status
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: They were to be send out to Al-Abtah Mountain, stripped naked under the scorching sun and lashed viciously.
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم passed by them as they were severely tortured and lavished, he could do nothing but pray for them and assist them to stay firm to their faith, he would say:
“O family of ‘Ammar! I bring you the glad tidings of the eternal Gardens waiting for you.”
Sheikh Ali Paqees: as for Bilal, the salve who had one of the firmest, steadfast faith
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Look closely at him, he who was entrusted with announcing the Adhan; how he fearlessly follows his exemplar, the prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: Bilal was Umayya bin Khalaf's slave, when the later knew that Bilal embraced Islam, he inflicted upon him some heinous torments
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: Umayy would lay Bilal on the burning sand of the Arabian Desert, or on hot pub hot bed of burning coal.
Sheikh Ali Paqees: He would tie a cord round his neck and would hand over the end of it to the young lads of Mecca to drag him all around
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: he was lashed, abused, and insulted
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: yet his sincere faith would not allow him to utter else
Sheikh Abdullateaf Al-Ghamdi: ' Ahad, Ahad' Allah is One
Sheikh Zaid al-Qoroon: These torments went on till Abu Bakr passed by him and succeeded in purchasing him from Ummaya and set him free, for Allah's sake. Thus later he was entrusted with the duty of Adhan (Call to prayers)
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: He was frequently asked how he could withstand those horrid tormenting ways that Umayya inflicted upon him. He would respond with reason that rarely ever found ' I would compare the torture and torments effects on my soul and body to the sweetness of Faith in Allah, and sweetness of patience in the sake of Allah, thus the later 'd surmount the bitterness of torments'
Sheikh Ali Paqees: and here is Khabbab bin Al-Aratt, a weak slave, who was tortured by his mistress, who would bring a hot piece of iron and put it on his back or head
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: and his people twist his neck, pull his...
Sheikh Ali Paqees: They would drag him over the fire until the fat on his back would melt and drip onto the fire, extinguishing it. After the emigration to Madina, marks as holes were seen in his back from the effect of fire bands.
Sheikh Khaled al-Khalawy: So, Quraysh subjected a group of the prophet's companions to great heinous torments, the weak one in particular suffered the most, those whom no one could defend but Allah سبحانه وتعالى but it was for a reason that Allah the Wisest had destined them to be subjected to so and so at that phase of the Call unto Islam.
