`A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated: When the Prophet, peace be upon him, did not receive the news he expected, he would recall the verse of Tarafah ibn Al `Abd: “The one who was not given anything by you shall bring you the news” (1) which begins with: Days shall show you what you were ignorant about.
Explanation of vocabularies (2):
Did not receive the news: i.e., when the news do not reach him on time.
Recalled: Recalled the verse of Tarafah which matches that situation.
Was not given anything: It means provision that is given to a traveler.
Lessons gained from the Hadith:
1- A person should not rush things up especially things which he does not know its consequences because days shall tell you their reality and you shall not need to send someone and provide him with food and all he needs -as the people of that time used to do- to get the news.
2- Examples, which are based on experiences, are full of entertainment for man, add some wisdom to his actions and behavior, and keep him away from rashness and recklessness.
3- The recall of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to this verse of poetry is a good instruction to benefit from examples and experiences in current life as long as these meanings are correct. And Allah knows the best!
