A Day of: Fasting… Joy… and Happiness

O Muslims, some may find it appealing to describe us as if that we take joy after the martyrdom of our grandfather, Al-Hussein ibn Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. We seek refuge with Allah Almighty from that.

In fact, we are calling for one of the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, which is fasting the day of Âshûrâ. Therefore, this is our creed and the creed of every Muslim. We have made it a motto: on the Day of Âshûrâ. We have also printed it as a poster so that all the Muslims and all those who love Al-Hussein, may Allah be pleased with him, learn our religious stance.

Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him and his father, narrated, "The Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, came to Medina and saw the Jews fasting on the day of Âshûrâ'. He asked, "What is this?" They replied, "This is a good day. It is the day on which Allah rescued the Children of Israel from their enemy. So, Moses fasted this day." The Prophet said, "I have more claim over Moses than you." So, the Prophet fasted on that day and ordered (the Muslims) to fast it." [Reported by Al-Bukhâri and Muslim] The Prophet, prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, has also said, "If I remain alive till the next year, I shall also observe fast on the ninth of Muharram." [Reported by Muslim]

O beloved, we remind you that fasting the days of Tâsû'â' and Âshûrâ' will be due next Friday and Saturday, and Allah knows best. Be keen in observing fast on these days to gain the great reward.
