It is a massive danger and a tremendous evil that a woman puts her picture on Facebook.
Q: How do I give an advice to a woman who puts her photo on Facebook; the well-known social network?
It is to be mentioned that she wears the veil, fears Allah, and she is a believer. Her argument is that whoever sees her photo on Facebook can see her in flesh and blood in the street. She adds that it is so corrupted nowadays that the dissolute will not care to look at her photo.
I need a persuasive talk with evidence from the Quran and Sunnah. I need some logic that any girl I talk to cannot confront. That is why I resorted to you. May Allah reward you well.
The Fatwa (religious legal opinion)
All the praises and thanks be to Allah. Prayers and peace of Allah be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon all his family and companions.
We have previously illustrated in Fatwa No. 136196 the impermissibility of a woman putting her photo on the internet; as this leads to the forbidden glance. Thus, this is helping one another in sin and transgression, which is forbidden in the Book of Allah. Allah says, {but do not help one another in sin and transgression.} [Surat Al-Mâ'idah 5:2]
{وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ} المائدة: 2
Transliteration: wala taAAawanoo AAala alithmi waalAAudwani
In addition, there is another grave conduct that requires the prohibition. Some human devils use this image, even if it does not show but only the face, and then they use specific software to put the face on pornographic photos. This leads to the spread of immorality on the one hand, and then the damage to the honor of this girl and slandering her chastity on the other. Therefore, it is the duty of the Muslim to protect his religion and honor from the tampering of abusers.
