From The Messenger of Allah -peace & blessings be upon him- to every husband
All perfect praise be to Allah Alone; and may Allah send blessing and peace upon Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, after whom there will be no Prophet. To go further:
Below is a set of Prophetic advices and Muhammadan instructions to every Muslim husband. We ask Allah Almighty to help him obey Allah and obtain His good pleasure.
1- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The one who is the most perfect in faith among the believers is he who has the best moral character among them; and the best among you are those who are the best of you (in treatment) to their wives.” [At-Tirmizi and authenticated by Al-Albani]
2- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “It is enjoined upon you to treat women kindly.” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
3- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “No believing man should hate a believing woman (his wife): if he dislikes a characteristic from her, of a surety, he would be pleased with another from her.” [Muslim]
4- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The greatest sin in the Sight of Allah is that a man marries a woman, and when he fulfills his desire from her (by having sexual intercourse with her), he divorces her and takes away her dowry.” [Declared Hasan (good) by Al-Albani]
5- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “He, who has two wives of whom he is inclined to one (more than the other), he will come on the Day of Judgment, with one of his sides inclined.” [Abu Dawud, and authenticated by Al-Albani]
6- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “A woman is married for four (things): her property, her good ancestry, her beauty and her religion. Behold! Obtain the religious woman, lest you would lose (good)!” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
7- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said (addressing ‘Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr): “O ‘Abdullah! Have I not been told that you observe fast by day and stand (in prayer) at night (perpetually)?” he said: “Yes O Messenger of Allah.” He, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Then, do not do so. Observe fast (for some days) and leave fasting (for some days);and stand (in prayer for a part of the night) and sleep (for a part of the night). Indeed, your body has a right on you, and your eyes have right on you, and your wife has a right on you.” [Al-Bukhari]
8- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Let none of you lash his wife in the same way as he lashes a slave and then come to sleep with her at the end of the day.” [Al-Bukhari]
9- It is narrated on the authority of Mu‘awiyah Ibn Haidah that he said: I said: “O Messenger of Allah! What is the right the wife of anyone of us has on him?” he, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “To feed her whenever you feed yourself, to dress her whenever you dress yourself, and not to slap the face, nor to ascribe her to ugliness (i.e. to say ‘may Allah deface you’), nor to leave the house in case you are to forsake her.” [Abu Dawud and authenticated by Al-Albani]
10- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “And your right upon them is that they never make anyone you dislike sit on your beds: if they do so, then, beat them but not severely. Their right upon you is that you should provide them with sustenance and clothing fairly and reasonably.” [Muslim]
11- It is narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: “The Abyssinians were playing (in a display) with their spears, when the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, screened me (with his garment) to be able to watch them, and I kept watching until I left on my own accord.” [Al-Bukhari]
12- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “May Allah have mercy upon a man who stands at night and performs (supererogatory) prayer and then awakens his wife (to perform prayer), and if she rejects, he sprinkles water in her face (to awaken her).” [Ahmad and Abu Dawud, and authenticated by Al-Albani]
13- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “The worst of people in the Sight of Allah Almighty on the Day of Judgment will be a man who has sexual intercourse with his wife, and then divulges her secret.” [Muslim]
14- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Cursed be he who has sexual relation with a woman (his wife) in her anus.” [Ahmad Shaker and authenticated by Al-Albani]
15- It is narrated on the authority of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, that she said: “the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, never beat a servant nor a woman (of his wives).” [Declared authentic by Al-Albani]
16- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “You never spend anything therewith you seek the Countenance of Allah but that for which you will receive a reward, even if it is a morsel you put in the mouth of your wife.” [Agreed upon]
17- The Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, said: “Anything in which there is no remembrance of Allah Almighty is but (idle) diversion and play, except for four, including one’s playing with his wife.” [Authenticated by Al-Albani]
O Allah! Send Your blessing upon the Muslim husbands and wives, instill affection and mercy between them, and endow them with the righteous offspring.
Amen, O Lord of the worlds.
